Bird Sightings June 2025

26 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate to light westerly wind.

An hours watch mid afternoon produced two first summer Gannets west, three Mediteranean Gulls west, (two adults and a juvenile), two adult Audouin's Gulls east, and four Audouin's Gulls west,(three adults and a second summer), and a Swallow.  Six Serins were observed together at Europa Point in the morning.

A Spotted Flycatcher was present in the Mount gardens.

 

 

25 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate south-westerly wind.

A Honey Buzzard, nine Griffon Vultures, a Booted Eagle and a Black Kite were seen heading north in the afternoon as winds freshened.  Four Jackdaws were observed at the Moorish castle.

 

24 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate to light westerly wind.

A Honey Buzzard was seen from Europa Point, and a Short-toed Eagle was seen in the early afternoon.

 

21 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with a light easterly wind.

Spotted Flycatchers feeding young at the Botanic gardens.  The Booted Eagle was back again today.

20 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with a light easterly wind.

The Booted Eagle was observed hunting in the Nature Reserve. A Grey Heron was present at the GSLA pavalion.

 

19 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with a light easterly wind

At least 30 House Martins at Four corners estate.

18 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with a moderate easterly wind

Two Swallows were seen perched on a clothes line at Montagu gardens estate.

17 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with a moderate easterly wind.

Two White Wagtails and a Serin at Europa Point.

 

16 Jun:  Levanter cloud in the morning over the rock and town clearing in the afternoon.  Winds fresh easterly with strong gusts.

A Robin was heard along Windmill road.  At least 40 Cory's Shearwaters seen off Camp bay.  Three Ravens were observed over the east side of the Rock.

 

14 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate easterly wind.

The Booted Eagle was once more hunting over the Rock.

 

13 Jun:  Clear skies with a light variable wind.

A pair of Spotted Flycatchers were present at Governor's Parade and three more were observed at Commonwealth Park.

 

12 Jun:  Clear skies with a light to moderate westerly wind.

Several Griffon Vultures attempted a Strait crossing.  Three were seen resting on roofs in the town area, but unfortunately four birds drowned off Europa Point.

11 Jun:  Cloudy start to the day, but clearing as the day progressed. Winds light variable to light westerly.

A Honey Buzzard, a light morph Booted Eagle and two Short-toed Eagles were seen in the evening, with one of the eagles, dead, recovered from the sea, bearing injuries inflicted by the Peregrine.  At dusk, three Honey Buzzards were seen high over town heading north.  An Elenora's Falcon was observed from Europa Point.

10 Jun:  Overcast skies with some light drizzle in the morning accompanied by thunder clouds. Some sunny intervals in the afternoon. Winds light variable to light south-westerly.

A Barbary Partridge with seven chicks were seen in the Jews' Gate area.

A feeding frenzy off Eastern beach contained over 100 Yellow-legged Gulls, some Cory's Shearwaters and a few Balearic Shearwaters Common Dolphins were feeding of the fish shoal as well.

Three Ravens were seen aover the top cable car station. A Robin was present at the Botanic Gardens and the Booted Eagle was hunting over Middle Hill.

 

08 Jun:  Clear skies with a light variable to light easterly wind.

A Barbary Partridge with eight chicks were observed in the Nature Reserve.

 

07 Jun:  Clear skies with a light variable wind. 

The light morph Booted Eagle was again seen hunting over the Nature Reserve.

 

06 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with a light westerly wind.

An hours watch in the evening at Europa Point produced 153 Cory's Shearwaters, 51 Balearic Shearwaters, nine Gannets, a very late Cormorant and four Shags.

Three Spotted Flycatchers and a Robin were seen at Commonwealth park.  Another Spotted Flycatcher was present at Arengo's garden. 

A Robin and a Serin were observed at the Lathbury area.

A pair of Kestrels and a pair of Jackdaws were seen feeding chicks at the Tower of Homage.

 

05 Jun:  Clear skies with a light westerly wind.

A Red-rumped Swallow was observed hanging around Arengo's garden.

 

04 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with some high cloud.  Winds moderate south-westerly.

Around midday seven Honey Buzzards flew north over Europa Point, with another none Honey Buzzards, three Short-toed Eagles and three Booted Eagles seen in the evening.

A juvenile Grey Heron was seen on the floating pontoons at the GSLA Pavilion.

A Robin was present at Montagu Garden estate.

 

02 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate easterly wind becoming light variable.

An early morning visit to Europa Point produced 40 Cory's Shearwaters, 17 Balearic Shearwaters and five Gannets.

In the evening nine Black Kites were seen over the Rock.

 

01 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate easterly wind.

A Common Chiffchaff was heard above Anglian Way, and a Spotted Flycatcher was observed along Rosia promenade.
