About GONHS

The Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society (GONHS), founded in 1976, is a non-governmental, membership-based organisation committed to research into and conservation of nature in Gibraltar and the region of the Strait of Gibraltar.

We work independently and in collaboration with other organisations and scientific or conservation institutions to achieve these aims.

We are committed to environmental and biological education, both through our own programme of activities and by supporting others.

Membership is open to all those who share our aims.

When you join GONHS you will receive our latest edition of Nature News and the Bird Report as well as your membership card and calendar of events for that year. As a member, you will be entitled to attend any of the monthly outings free of charge.

Your subscription fee goes towards conservation projects within Gibraltar as well as:

  • Supporting our Raptor Rehabilitation Unit which cares for and subsequently releases injured/sick raptors found around Gibraltar.
  • The maintenance and running of our bird ringing premises at Jews' Gate Field Centre.
  • The production and printing of our bi-annual magazine Nature News.
  • The production and printing of our annual Bird Report.
