GONHS at the Andalucía Bird Fair in Montejaque

23 April 2024

A group of GONHS members represented the organisation at the Andalucía Bird Fair in Montejaque, 19th – 21st  April. The event brought together birders, conservationists, and nature lovers from Andalusia and beyond.

The programme included activities catering to seasoned birdwatchers and newcomers alike. Attendees had the chance to immerse themselves in diverse events such as bird box-building workshops, interactive displays from conservation organisations and natural product stalls. A highlight was a photo competition that beautifully showcased the splendour of birds, alongside a series of informative lectures on a wide range of bird-related topics.

One of the highlights for GONHS was an enlightening lecture by Keith Bensusan and Stewart Finlayson of GONHS Council. Their presentation offered a deep dive into Gibraltar birds, from prehistory to present. The session was very well received by attendees.

Beyond the engaging indoor activities, the fair also organised guided tours in the surrounding area, allowing participants to venture into the fabulous mountains around Montejaque. These excursions provided opportunities to observe the fabulous birdlife of the Ronda and Grazalema mountains.

GONHS extends its sincere thanks to our stalwart members (and all too patient spouses) who represented the organisation at the event: Linda and Keith Moore, Steven & Thiabette Morgan, Jill & Pete Yeoman, Tony & Jeanette Hocking, Keith Bensusan and Stewart Finlayson.

Our participation in the Montejaque Bird Fair significantly contributed towards promoting Gibraltar, bird conservation and environmental awareness. It was also an excellent opportunity to network with other wildlife and conservation organisations from the region. We look forward to engaging with the organisers of the fair for the 2025 event.
